On December 8, 2008, a USMC F/A-18 Hornet from MCAS Miramar
crashed into a neighborhood on final approach, killing 4 civilians and
damaging several other homes and property. The presenter was a
member of the Command Investigation team, and they discovered a
shocking lack of coordination and communication between the disabled aircraft and its pilot and the squadron ready room, in addition to maintenance oversights and questionable decisions across the board. After publicly releasing the findings of the investigation, lawsuits were filed against the government
by the family of the victims. This CLE will walk participants through the accident sequence and discuss the results of the post accident litigation.
